EFP / ENG (Course Number: FLMB107)

What makes good Electronic Field Production (EFP) and excellent Electronic News Gathering today? This
workshop exposes the latest tendencies in these areas and places them within a historical context. TV has
changed from quality to quantity: Reality TV has taken over - stations like ABC and CNN will pay well for almost
any type of handheld video footage. Aimed at industry professionals with intermediate and advanced
knowledge in EFP/ENG (Beta, DV and HD) this workshop will explain how to capture the moment with only
limited time and resources. Fast setups, eye catchers, lighting, visualization and sound design are explored
keeping the overall framing, concept and editing in mind. This workshop is also suitable for PAs, TADs, 4th year
students of TV, Film, Image Arts as well as documentary filmmakers.

Instructor: Francesco Broccolo is an industry expert with many credits and years of EFP/ENG experience,
having worked as producer for Telelatino Television. He currently runs his own production company.

Advanced Animation (Course Number: FLMB177) The Filmbay Workshop Series 2012 "Pictures in Motion"
Advanced Animation (Course Number: FLMB177)

This workshop covers the essence of what makes good animation today. Students will learn the history of
animation - from Disney to Pixar, types and genre of animation: stop motion, flip books, rotoscoping, and
claymation. Also covered are the basics and advanced areas of animation with storyboarding, cuts, angles and
manipulating the axis line. Utilizing animation from idea to screen, bringing ideas to life, story setups with conflict
and resolution and exploring elements of film will enhance and foster a better understanding of animation. An
added segment deals with comics, its similarities and differences to animation.

Instructor: Dimitri Kostic is a professional animator and illustrator. He worked for renowned animation houses
such as Nelvana and others. Today he is a freelancer and teacher in animation.

Writing for Animation (Course Number: FLMB247) The Filmbay Workshop Series 2012 “Pictures in Motion”
Writing for Animation (Course Number: FLMB247)

Designed for writers interested in writing for animation. The art of animation requires a special and unique
approach to writing. Do you have a story or an idea for an animated story or series? This workshop will get you
started, teaching you the process necessary to develop your idea and shape it into a viable script. You will learn to
create interesting characters, put them in challenging and dramatic situations, and create suspense and tension.
You will learn how to write an outline, build a three act structure, find plot points to turn the drama, and write
dialogue and action that is unique to animation.

Instructor: Kenn Scott is an award-winning television writer and story editor whose work on sitcoms and
animated shows has been seen on CBC, CTV, Teletoon, Fox, CBS, PBS, BBC, and ITV, as well as in more than 60
countries worldwide. He has been teaching screenwriting to university students for over a decade, and has also
lead writing workshops for the Writers Guild of Canada and the Canadian Film Centre.

“How to direct a Music Video” (Course Number: FLMB307) The Filmbay Workshop Series 2010 “Pictures in Motion”
“How to direct a Music Video” (Course Number: FLMB307)

Guerilla-style music videos: from permits to promotion--This workshop deals with the entire process of directing a
music video, covering pre-production, production and post-production. Participants will *LEARN earn about
getting started, brainstorming & idea gathering techniques, story conception, visualization aesthetics, practical
filmmaking tips and other aspects that relate to this specific kind of production.
Several sample music videos will be deconstructed and analyzed as well. In addition, funding options and legal
aspects, as well as distribution, marketing and promotion are also explored. Special focus is *PLACED ON how to
shoot music videos "guerilla style" with only a limited or shoestring budget available. Filmmakers are encouraged
to discuss their current projects and works-in-progress in this forum.

Instructor: John-Paul has directed music videos, commercials and films in Europe and North America. After
establishing his own film production company with his brother in Toronto, he is currently creating a new internet
service designed to reach independent filmmakers worldwide.
